The 2020 season was such an enjoyable season. Whilst it was a strange season in so many ways, all the boys loved playing rugby league and most importantly loved playing in the same team. I witnessed their confidence grow throughout the season. I can honestly say that I enjoy the boys’ company every Thursday and Saturday.
Halfway through this season, I was no longer on the field which impacted me more than the boys. They didn’t miss a beat and probably welcomed not having me giving them directions. Training for Under 7’s is always a challenge to keep their interest, but we found a few drills they loved. Bull rush was always a favourite as was Stuck in the Mud and playing a game against the Dad’s. However, we do need to put more time into tackling next season. Not our strong suite in 2020 but let’s learn from that and try harder next year.
Congratulations to our main award winners, Cooper Skuse, Jax Pogson and Henry Eastlake. They are all worthy winners. I so easily could have given all seven players one of these awards, but well-done boys on a great season. You deserve your trophies.
We scored 111 tries this season and I am proud of every boy as they all scored multiple tries and received points in the B&F voting. I had four boys score double figure tries and four boys within one point of each other in the B&F voting.
Thank you, Steve Conlon, for helping with training and on game day. Your assistance was a massive help and very much appreciated. You were the calming influence especially when I no longer was on the field.
A huge thank you goes to Kasey Pogson for being my manager. Your organisation was first class and your spreadsheet with all game day information was super impressive to say the least. So, thanks Kasey. And good luck in the off-season with number 4 on the way.
Thanks also to Luke Forbes for stepping in when I needed another set of hands. A massive thank you too, to all my parents. You always put your hands up for duty and you were always encouraging to the boys as well as Steve and me. We have a great little team with great kids and great parents. So, thank you everyone for making this season so enjoyable.
In finishing I want to thank all the boys. You all have a great attitude, love playing footy and enjoy each other’s company. I am already looking forward to season 2021.
Go the Bulldogs!
Esho.
HUNTER CONLON
Hunter had another strong season contributing to all facets of our team dynamic. Hunter scored 15 tries in seven of our games and was always doing his best in whatever he did. Hunter is one of our strongest tackler’s and looked to enjoy that role in the last few games. Keep up the good work in 2021 Hunter.
HENRY EASTLAKE
Henry returned in 2020 with a point to prove and he did that. He ran strong, tackled with aggression and he scored three tries. Henry is our quietest teammate but what he lacks in voice, he makes up for in commitment. Henry has improved out of sight and deserves his Most Improved Award. Congratulations Henry. Looking forward to seeing your improvement next season.
DAWSON ESHMAN
Dawson was my assistant coach and assistant manager all rolled up into one, always ensuring everything was where it should be. He improved throughout the season, scoring seven tries including two in the last game when he got down low and went for it. Dawson has a gentle nature that makes him a likeable, important member of our team. Well done Dawson.
JORDAN FORBES
Little Jordie Forbes is our pocket rocket. But height isn’t an issue for Jordan who tries his best every single game. Jordan scored a hattrick twice this season as well as a length of the field try against an undefeated team. All up Jordan scored nine tries and is a pleasure to coach. Congratulations Jordan on another great year.
CARTER POGSON
Carter enjoyed another strong season, always competed hard and played well above his weight. Carter always put his little frame on the line in defence and got better with every game. This showed in Carter scoring four tries in the last two matches as well as two close to best on ground efforts. Well done Carter on another strong season.
JAX POGSON
Jax picks up the Coaches Award this year because of his toughness, competitiveness, and willingness to get his hands on the ball. Jax has white line fever and he just loves playing rugby league. Jax scored 13 tries this season which included four tries in a game twice. Congratulations Jax on a great season. Your Coaches Award is well deserved.
COOPER SKUSE
Congratulations to Cooper for his Best and Fairest Award. Cooper was a clear winner of this award for the second year in a row. Cooper scored in every game and received at least two points in B&F voting every game. He scored 53 tries and made more tackles than anyone else. Cooper’s natural sporting ability makes this coach jealous. Congratulations and well done on another stellar year.
