2020 Season Report - u8

Coach: Rich Fogarty

Trainer: Corey Wishart

Another year down, all be it a short one. Our boys went out and played a great style of footy.

Tough in defence and smart with the ball, this team is shaping up nicely for the future. The boy’s bond is building by the year and they are looking out for each other. With a lot of smart footballers and a bit of size and speed my goal for our team is to build a side of unselfish players who can move the ball around and work hard for each other. They’re a brave bunch of kids who our parents and club can be proud of.

During the year the boys played above themselves, winning the majority of games, including the Val Kearns Shield 28-8. The improvement and growth in all our boys is there to see and their willingness to learn and get to training each week is much appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the team during the year, especially Corey Wishart our trainer.

Stick together boys and work hard and good times await you. I can’t wait to see the growth over the off season and hopefully life back to normal next year. Congratulations on a great season.

Rich.

Lachlan Doherty Big, strong and fast. Lachy brings some power to our team and if he continues to train hard I believe he could become one of the best players in his age group. He’s a great ball runner and he gets our team moving forward. For a big boy he also does a lot in defence and reads the game well. Just missing out on Best and Fairest you’ve had a great year Lachy.

Hayden Curry Our player of the year and leading try scorer. Hayden is a great competitor who always gives his best- lightning fast especially out of dummy half. If you blink, he’ll be running past the defence and heading for the try-line. Apart from his attacking abilities his defensive skills are very good. He puts his body on the line without any fear and very rarely anyone gets outside of him. He trains as hard as he plays and is always ready to listen and learn. Fantastic season and well-deserved player of the year.

Mason Hayes-Conway Big Mase was having a big season until a bad break of his elbow and hand. Mase is one of those kids who you need to change a game. Whether it’s from a big run or a crunching tackle. Another boy who knows his footy and was improving with every game. I know you’ll be back next year ready to go and will excel.

Maddox Nobbs Is a speedy back with a lot of skill. He has great hands and at times has taken bad passes or kicks from off the ground without blinking. He knows his way to the try line with his weaving runs. At the moment we use him on the wing in defence and he has handled it very well. However, in years to come I can see him a ready-made fullback. Great year mate.

Harry Fogarty Is an organising half who reads the game very well. He plays beyond his weight and is always leading the team up in defence. He is never scared to put himself on the line and tackle boys twice his size. During the year, only 1 quarter was lost while Harry was playing first receiver giving his team room to move and being unselfish feeding his players. Great season Harry.

Jackson Wishart

Is a tenacious little footballer who loves getting in the thick of the game whether it be in attack or defence he never holds back. This year he made many great runs with his great footwork and is starting to think about his game. Running onto the ball and getting his team moving forward. He came back from a major injury at such young age. Well done Jacko, who is the recipient of the Ryan Hartley Perpetual trophy for his willingness to listen, learn and for being a pleasure to coach.

Ryder Patmore Ryder was new to our team and fitted in straight away. Training hard and taking in everything football. His defence got better with every game and he showed he has no fear when tackling or taking a hit up. From the midpoint of the season his improvement was rapid as his confidence grew and his running game started to take off, leading to some great tries. Ryder was a pleasure to coach and was without doubt our most improved.

Hendrix Jacques Is a big kid who has a lot of potential and when he realises his strength he will explode into a great footballer. As the year went on, we saw what Hendrix can do with some big charges which took a lot of defenders to pull him down. Hendrix also starting to contribute in defence which is very encouraging. Well done Hendrix.

Taj Helmrich Is one of the characters in our team who always gives his all. He defends well and is a boy who has a bit of fire about him and doesn’t mind a bit of a niggle. When given space to move Taj is hard to take down. He made some weaving runs during the year and always provides great entertainment. Well done mate.

Archie Nunn Is our tough, passionate little footballer with good skills. He’s another who is thinking about the game. Another one always giving his best at training. He has started to put that on the field come game day and his front on defence is scary at times. He is able to drive kids back 5 metres. Archie also possess a good offload and will keep improving with more football.

Henry Clinch Is a big strong kid with a strong fend. At times can rip teams apart with his aggressive charges leading to a memorable try against Aquinas. With more training next year, I know Henry can go to another level and compete for longer periods.

Nash White Unfortunately, it didn’t feel like we saw enough of Nash this year with forfeits and holidays. However, when he runs, he plays hard to stop and when he finds space it’s game over. Nash has developed a good offload leading to tries. He always defends strongly. Big and fast he will be a big assets in coming years.

Kainan Chapman Due to COVID it’s been a limited year for Kai. He charges hard with the ball and knows his way to the try line. Kai tackles hard front on and will continue to improve with more training. Well done Kainan.

Carter Smith Only 2 games for us this year due to helping out the club U/7’s sides. However, he’s still a big part of our team and always gives his best. Very tough, look out for Carter next year- bigger, stronger and faster.
